Teachers’ Day – A Teacher teaches every day and touches lives for a lifetime

Standard

5th of September is celebrated as Teachers’ day in India, every year to celebrate the birth anniversary of honourable Dr. Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan, who was a distinguished Teacher, Scholar, Philosopher and administrator par excellence.

Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan was the first Vice-President and second President of India. He was the second President of India. He acted as a President from the year 1952 to 1962. He has written many scholarly books and contributed articles in several journals. He was a passionate Teacher. As a Professor, he was associated with several Universities like the University of Mysore, University of Calcutta, Presidency College of Madras and Andhra University.

When Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan became the President of India, some of his students wanted to celebrate his birthday. To this, he replied, “Instead of celebrating my birthday separately, it would be my proud privilege  if September 5 is observed as Teachers’ Day”. This reply shows his profound love for teaching profession. Since then, 5th September is celebrated as Teachers’ Day in India, every year.

Teaching is a noble profession. The future generation of a country lies on the hands of Teachers. Teachers play the greatest role in building a society. In India, Teachers are considered as equal to God. Teachers are respected by everyone in the Society.

A Teacher has both authority and responsibility to give shape to the thought process of an individual. Moral values, character and ethics learned at an early age pave the way towards a responsible and cultural human being. Teachers enlighten a society by bringing light in the form of Knowledge driving away the darkness of ignorance. Teachers don’t just impart education, they also give shape to a child’s character, career and his/her position in the society.

Schools, Colleges and all other Educational Institutions/Establishments take this opportunity to honour the Teachers who work relentlessly all the year round. Students express their sincere gratitude to their loving Teachers on this day. A Teacher works very hard and in returns only expects love and respect from students. A Teacher’s success lies in the success of his/her students.

Today, as I write this page about Teacher’s day, I feel very emotional remembering all my Teachers. From the bottom of my heart, I thank all my Teachers and pray for their well being where ever they are. My sincere love,  admiration and gratitude goes towards all my teachers.

At the same time, I also remember all my students. In my seven years of teaching career, I have tried my best to enrich lives and connect with the young minds just like a mother does for her children. My love and warm wishes goes out to all my students.
